The Houston Texans really couldn’t be in a worse position coming into the 2021 season. Last season they went 4-12 and that was with a near MVP season from Deshaun Watson. Now, as we head into the 2021 season the odds look slim that Watson will play for Houston this year. Add in that they lost their best wide receiver and did little to replace him or Watson and you don’t really want to do the math if you are a Texans fan.
We’ll take a look at the latest DraftKings Sportsbook lines and predict if the Texans can beat their 2021 win total. The odds below are as of May 24, 2021.
NFC North win totals
Indianapolis Colts 10 (Over +115, Under -139)
Tennessee Titans 9 (Over -110, Under -110)
Jacksonville Jaguars 6.5 (Over +110, Under -134)
Houston Texans 4.5 (Over +118, Under -143)
Notable offseason moves
With no draft pick until the third round, the Texans weren’t able to add top end draft picks for this season. They did bring in RBs Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram, OT Marcus Cannon, OG Justin McCray, DE Shaq Lawson, LB Jordan Jenkins, CB Terrance Mitchell and QB Tyrod Taylor.
They lost WR Will Fuller, DE J.J. Watt, RB Duke Johnson, and TE Darren Fells.
Houston Texans prediction: UNDER 4.5
At this point, Watson says he’s done with the Texans and they went out and got Tyrod Taylor to replace him. Watson could have legal trouble as well, so all in all it doesn’t look good for him to be a Texan this season. I like Taylor, but he’s nothing more than a backup and doesn’t have the talent around him to do much in this offense. And the defense isn’t going to be much better. This team will tank for a quarterback in the 2022 draft, likely after trading Watson for more draft capital.
