The second round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs gets underway on Saturday, May 29th with the Boston Bruins facing the New York Islanders. We’re still awaiting one first-round series to wrap up with the Montreal Canadiens forcing Game 6 vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs, which will take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. After that, the entire second round matchups are set and we’ll be down to eight teams competing for the Stanley Cup.
The Colorado Avalanche remain the betting favorite to win it all on DKSB after sweeping the St. Louis Blues in the first round. The Bruins and Bolts come in after them with Boston being a pretty big mover from 10/1 to +475. The defending champs also moved up quite a bit and could have an easy path to the Final Four, taking on the young Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.
The biggest fallers are the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights won Game 7 vs. the Minnesota Wild to avoid a major upset. The Leafs still have to take care of the Habs in Game 6 or 7. Toronto has always had the talent but can never really get over the hump of winning in the postseason. Shaking off the first-round demons may give Auston Matthews and the rest of the roster more confidence. The Leafs and Knights are also tough to bank on having to go through the Avalanche in order to reach the Cup Final.
