Dodgers vs. Cubs, 2:20 p.m. ET
Moneyline pick: Dodgers -205
The Dodgers are coming into today’s game off of a dominating 16-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. With the win, Los Angeles snapped a three-game losing streak and at least salvaged one game from the four-game set against the Brew Crew.
In their last three contests, the Dodgers are averaging 7.33 runs per game, which was aided by that 16-run outing on Sunday. However, they are only batting .250 over that span of time. Los Angeles will try to start a win streak and steal Game 1 of the double-header with Clayton Kershaw on the mound. The ace has a record of 4-2 and ERA of 2.09 with 39 strikeouts in 38.2 IP. In his last five starts, Kershaw has an ERA of 1.80 with a record of 4-1. As for the Cubs, they lost two out of three games over the weekend to the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs are averaging 4.61 runs per game this season, but only hitting .224 at the plate, which is not great.
On the mound for Chicago will be Kyle Hendricks, who has a record of 1-3 and skyrocketing ERA of 7.54. The 31-year-old Cubs starter has also allowed 10 home runs and eight walks in 22.2 IP. In four starts at Wrigley this season, Hendricks has been hit around, with an ERA of 5.68 and 1-2 record. Opponents are batting .284 off the 31-year-old at home, which is good news for the Dodgers’ bats.
Player Prop: Clayton Kershaw O7.5 strikeouts (+105)
This is a player prop that you should highly consider before it switches over to minus money before first pitch at 2:20 p.m. ET. After a rough first start against the Rockies, Kershaw has been pitching good in his last five outings for the defending World Series champs. The 33-year-old has gone over 7.5 strikeouts in three out of six starts this season. In 11 career starts against the Cubs, Kershaw has a 6-3 record, 2.74 ERA, and 11.5 K/9. It also doesn't help that Chicago is averaging 10.07 strikeouts per game this season, which is one of the worst in the majors.
