Is Miguel Andujar worth picking up in fantasy baseball?

With Gio Urshela dealing with an injury, the Yankees are reportedly recalling third baseman Miguel Andujar from Triple-A.

YES Network Yankees analyst Jack Curry reported on Friday that third baseman Gio Urshela will not be going on the injury list. Urshela suffered a knee injury in the eighth inning against the Houston Astros Thursday afternoon.

The team is reportedly going to call up third baseman Miguel Andujar from AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre and will send down pitcher Albert Abreu. Despite Urshela not going on the injured list, this piece of news tells us that Andujar may get some time at the hot corner for the New York Yankees.

This season at Scranton Wilkes-Barre, the 26-year-old Andujar is hitting .462/.467/1.154 with 3 HRs and 5 RBI in 15 plate appearances. The Yankees and fantasy baseball managers alike are hoping that he can carry this momentum over to the big league club. The last time we saw Andujar in the majors, he struggled with a slash line of .242/.277/.355, 1 HR and 5 RBI in 2020.

It might be hard to convince fantasy baseball managers to pick up Andujar off of the waiver wire. However, we cannot forget what the 26-year-old third baseman did in 2018. In only his second season, Andujar put the MLB on notice, hitting .297/.328/.527 with 27 HRs and 92 RBI in 606 plate appearances. If he can return to any semblance of his 2018 season, that is going to make the Yankees’ lineup dangerous. It will also make Andujar a hot commodity on the waiver wire.
