As the pandemic-based shows being broadcast from the UFC APEX begin to wind down, the UFC rolls out another card this evening with UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs. Waterson. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with four preliminary bouts, followed by the main card starting at 8:00 p.m. which features six bouts. This event will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+.
Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson
The main event is between Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson. Rodriguez enters the octagon ranked sixth in the strawweight rankings, with Waterson ranked ninth in that same weight class. But this bout will take place at the flyweight limit 125 pounds instead of strawweight’s 115.
Rodriguez is 13-1-2, winning her last fight over another fellow Saturday competitor Amanda Ribas in January by TKO. Waterson holds and 18-8 career mark, and might be fighting for her status in the UFC after losing her two previous fights before defeating Angela Hill last September in a controversial split decision.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs. Alex Morono
There are few UFC competitors that have never been champion as popular as Cerrone, who has transitioned into serving as gate keeper for the future of the sport. But Cerrone has lost five fights in a row in the cage, though the last in September was overturned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission because Niko Price tested positive for marijuana.
Cerrone is still ranked #15 at lightweight however, but dropping six in a row might be too much for even the most popular star. He’ll compete at welterweight tonight when he takes on Alex Morono, who is 18-7 at 30 years of age. “The Great White” Morono has lost two of his last three bouts himself, falling to Anthony Pettis by decision on December 19th of last year after his last walk to the ring.
