The Minnesota Vikings fell a game short of the postseason in 2020 with a 7-9 record for third place in the NFC North. Minnesota got off to a 1-5 start and lost three of their final four games of the season. The Vikings fell short of their expectations, but they made plenty of offseason moves to expect a better finish in 2021.
We’ll take a look at the latest DraftKings Sportsbook lines and predict if the Vikings can beat their 2021 win total. The odds below are as of June 1, 2021.
NFC North win totals
Green Bay Packers — Off the board
Minnesota Vikings 9 (Over +125, Under -152)
Chicago Bears 7.5 (Over +103, Under -125)
Detroit Lions 5 (Over -110, Under -110)
Notable offseason moves
Minnesota added nose tackle Dalvin Tomlinson in free agency in addition to cornerback Patrick Peterson and safety Xavier Woods to improve the defensive side of the ball.
The Vikings biggest departures include offensive tackle Riley Reiff and long-time Minnesota tight end Kyle Rudolph. They also lost linebacker Eric Wilson and safety Anthony Harris.
Minnesota went with offensive tackle Christian Darrishaw with their first round draft pick and while Kirk Cousins’ job is not in jeopardy at this point, the Vikings next pick was former Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Kellen Mond in the third round.
Minnesota Vikings prediction: OVER 9
As we take a look at the NFC North, oddsmakers project the Detroit Lions to be among the worst teams in the NFL, the Chicago Bears are breaking in another new quarterback, and the Green Bay Packers could range anywhere from missing the playoffs to being a Super Bowl contender depending on what happens with the Aaron Rodgers situation. Minnesota is in a good spot in this division with the fewest question marks at this point of the offseason.
Minnesota should showcase one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL with Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, and the defense should be better with the offseason acquisitions the Vikings made through free agency. There is quite a bit to like about this Vikings team, which is why we’re taking the over nine wins for 2021 especially if we’re getting plus value.
