The Washington Football Team showcased one of the feel-good stories of the 2020 season when Alex Smith completed his miraculous return to the NFL and started games as the quarterback. Washington won a really bad NFC East division at 7-9 and was bounced from the postseason in the Wild Card round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Football Team is expected to finish around the same record in 2021 with their win total set at eight.
We’ll take a look at the latest DraftKings Sportsbook lines and predict if Washington can beat their 2021 win total. The odds below are as of June 1, 2021.
NFC North win totals
Notable offseason moves
Washington will need a new starting quarterback with Alex Smith retiring from football, and linebacker Thomas Davis called it a career as well. The Football Team moved on from defensive end Ryan Kerrigan and cornerback Ronald Darby.
Washington signed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and brought in wide receivers Adam Humphries and Curtis Samuel. On the defensive side of the ball, they landed cornerback William Jackson in free agency. Washington also went with linebacker Jamin Davis with their first round pick in this spring’s NFL Draft.
Washington Football Team prediction: UNDER 8
Overall, Washington is about the same team they were last season, which is pretty average. However, by finishing in first place in the division last season, Washington is going to have a more difficult schedule than the rest of the NFC East. The division hasn’t had a repeat champ since the 2004 Philadelphia Eagles, and another trend to look at is that despite playing all around the league for many years, Fitzpatrick has never played in a playoff game.
The NFC East isn’t expected to have any great teams in 2021, but there isn’t much reason to believe Washington will be all that improved with a similar roster to last season. Let’s go with the under especially with plus value for a franchise that went over eight wins just once in the last eight seasons.
