The Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians will begin a three-game set at 7:10 p.m. ET on Friday. Justin Dunn will be on the mound for the Mariners, while the Indians will give the ball to Aaron Civale. We’ll go over some ideal picks on DraftKings Sportsbook centered around the game here.
Mariners vs. Indians, 7:10 p.m. ET
Moneyline pick: Indians -177
Both the Indians and Mariners will be looking to get back into the win column when they play each other on Friday evening. Cleveland is coming off a two-game split against the St. Louis Cardinals, while Seattle lost 2 out of 3 to the Detroit Tigers.
The Indians will lean on Aaron Civale, who has been their second-best pitcher behind Shane Bieber this season. Civale is 8-2 and has an ERA of 3.49 in 12 starts this season. The 25-year-old is looking to bounce back after a so-so outing against the Baltimore Orioles, where he allowed 7 hits (3 HRs), 4 earned runs, but had 4 strikeouts in 6.0 IP. Civale has had trouble with the long ball recently, allowing a massive 8 home runs in his last five starts.
Civale has been good at home with a 3-1 record and 3.21 ERA in five starts. This will be the second time this season that Civale has faced Seattle this season. Back in May, the young starter allowed 7 hits (2 HRs), 5 earned runs, but still put up 6 strikeouts in 6.2 IP.
The Indians lost that game, but I think Civale can get the win and is the better option on the mound. Mariners starter Justin Dunn has had issues keeping the bases clean as he’s allowed 27 walks in 45.1 IP. However, he’s done well on the road this season with a 3.38 ERA. I don’t think that Cleveland should be enormous -177 favorites, but I do like them to win in a close one.
Player Prop: Aaron Civale over 5.5 strikeouts (+120)
Civale has given up a lot of home runs lately, but he also has the ability to land a ton of strikeouts too. This season, he has recorded 58 strikeouts in 80 IP, which is not too shabby and is projected to finish the season with 159. Civale has gone over 5.5 strikeouts in 6 out of 12 starts, including 3 out of his last 4.
He’ll be facing a Mariners squad that strikes out a ton at 9.34 times per game this season. On the road, they are averaging about 9 strikeouts per game. At plus-money value, it is hard to pass up on this strikeout prop and just knowing what Civale did versus this team last month.
