New York Mets star pitcher Jacob deGrom left after six innings against the San Diego Padres due to right flexor tendonitis, according to the team. deGrom struck out 10 batters before exiting the game with the Mets leading 3-2.
deGrom is one of the best pitchers in baseball this season with an ERA of 0.56. He has consistently been an ace for the Mets, who have famously failed to provide him with much run support in his starts.
The Mets entered Friday with a 3.5 game lead over the Phillies in the NL East. If deGrom misses extended time, New York will have to find a way to hold onto its division lead. The Mets have a handful of players on the IL, including starters Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo.
