The Cubbies will be looking for a nice three-game sweep on Wednesday afternoon when they take on the Padres. Chicago defeated San Diego 4-3 last night for their fourth victory out of their last five games. In their last four victories, the Cubs are averaging 5.5 runs per game.
Meanwhile, the Padres have lost three straight games, thanks to their offense only hitting .222 and their pitching struggling with a 6.00 ERA. That being said, San Diego may have a chance to steal Game 3 as this could end up being a bullpen game between both teams starting pitchers.
Lamet is making his fifth start of the season, but has yet to pitch into the fifth inning. In his last start against the Astros, he allowed 5 hits (1 HR), 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and recorded 3 strikeouts in 3.0 IP. If it comes down to the bullpens, the Padres’ relievers are one of the best in the majors with a 2.36 ERA. But do not sleep on Chicago’s bullpen, which is just as good with a 2.69 ERA. Alzozay can pitch further into games, but is only 3-4 with an ERA of 3.81 through nine starts this season. That being said, I can’t see the Padres getting swept in Wrigley. They are too good of a team to not win this game and snap their mini-three game skid.
