The 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo will have basketball, and the United States is a massive favorite to win their 16th gold medal in 20 opportunities.
Who will be on Team USA this summer? There are 57 players identified as finalists, but who will say yes is the question. The COVID-19 restrictions in Japan are extensive, plenty of players are tired from the compressed NBA season, and free agents won’t want to get hurt before signing extensions. Free agents can’t sign extensions until August 2nd, which is Week 2 of the Olympic tournament.
Players that missed the playoffs completely (Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Zion Williamson) would all be great fits, but anyone that makes the NBA Finals is likely out.
As for the other teams, they’ll have pro players too. Serbia is the second choice, with Nikola Jokić and Boban Marjanović likely to participate if they don’t have NBA responsibilities.
Here are the complete odds from DraftKings Sportsbook for who will win the gold medal at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
