The winner of the 2021 U.S. Open will get a $2.25 million cut of a $12.5 million total purse from golf’s national championship. It is the highest paying major and matches last year’s total prize pool. Second place will take home $1.35 million.

This year, The Masters purse was $11.5 million and the PGA Championship was at $12.5 million. The Open Championship was at $10.75 million in 2019 but was canceled last year due to COVID-19. The Players Championship has continued hiking its purses in recent years to solidify its status as a quasi-fifth major and paid out a whopping $15 million in 2021.

This year’s U.S Open is headed into the final round on Sunday with a three-way tie atop the leaderboard. Mackeznie Hughes, Louis Oosthuizen, and Russell Henley all sit at -5 through 54 holes. Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau are tied for fourth at -3, and then Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Matthew Wolff follow at -2. With a host of big names in the hunt and plenty of bogeys through the first three days, it could make for a wild championship Sunday.
