Mackenzie Hughes took quite an unplayable lie with a ball in a tree

While the course is named after the famed Torrey Pines along the beach in San Diego, California, there are eucalyptus trees everywhere as well. And apparently they like golf balls too.

Mackenzie Hughes is one of the best golfers in the world. But everyone can relate to as pure a double-cross as you’ll ever see on the 11th hole in the final round of the 2021 US Open.

And as every average hacker knows, when the ball gets in the trees it can go anywhere. Including the tree.

Hug that means we’re taking an unplayable, dropping 2 and hitting our third shot from here. But the difference is at the US Open, someone actually finds this ball.

Hughes sits at -2 now, three shots back of the lead after 11 after taking double bogey on the hole. It’s a tough break at the wrong time, but sometimes this is going to happen. And the good news is Hughes still has seven holes to get back into contention.
