The 2021 NBA Draft Lottery took place at 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 22nd to decide the front half of the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. The New Orleans Pelicans were awarded the No. 10 pick in the first round of the draft following the lottery draw. The Pelicans were tied for the eight-best odds to win the No. 1 overall pick at 4.5 percent, along with the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls. Here we’re going to take a look at where the Pelicans are drafting and who they should look to take.
Who should the New Orleans Pelicans take with the No. X pick?
Zion Williamson is a budding star, but the Pelicans are somehow already on the clock to make him happy enough to re-sign with New Orleans. There are no obvious prospect holes for this team, but Lonzo Ball could depart in restricted free agency. The Pelicans can go many ways depending on how the board falls, but they eventually settle on Josh Giddey from Australia. He’s a dynamic guard but has the size of a small forward and was just the NBL’s Rookie of the Year. Given how LaMelo Ball performed this past season, Giddey is a great choice if he’s here for New Orleans.
