The group stage of the 2021 European Championship over. Sixteen of the world’s best teams have advanced to the knockout round of the tournament, which will begin which is set to begin on Saturday, June 26th. France only secured one win during the group stage but is the odds-on favorite to win it all. Kylian Mbappe hasn’t scored yet, but Antoinne Griezmann and Karim Benzema have led the attack and combined for three goals. France’s stagnant creativity could cause concern moving forward, as other teams have had far more fluid link-up play.
Italy (+650)
Italy has won all three of its games and outscored opposing teams 7-0. It scored three goals in each of its first group stage games and has many dangerous attackers. Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne have looked as dangerous as any duo competing. Generating 60 shots and holding three teams scoreless is no small feat. This is one of the best value bets you can make at this point.
England (+700)
England has the third-best-odds and is unbeaten with two wins and a tie and might be the most talented team on the field. England hasn't conceded a goal but creating chances has been a struggle, as England hasn’t been able to generate more shots than its opponent in one match so far. Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Jadon Sancho has yet to grace the pitch despite his countries struggles. Resistance to change could be what unravels England in the knockout stage.
Germany (+700)
Germany took down a very talented Portugal side 4-2 in the group stage before scrambling for a 2-2 tie against Hungary in its final group stage game. Playmakers like Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan can pull strings all over the field with passes, but Germany has yet to get a goal from a striker. Kai Havertz is unexpectedly leading his country in goals with two, but Germany’s usually elite defense will have to be much better moving forward.
Belgium (+900)
It’s surprising to see that 3-0 Belgium has the seventh-best odds, and only Italy can match its consistency so far. Romelu Lukaku’s elite finishing skills have contributed to three of Belgium’s seven tournament goals, and the defense has only yielded one goal to Denmark. Kevin De Bruyne is back in the mix after missing the first group stage match because of an injury and is arguably the world’s best playmaker when healthy. Belgium’s midfield can interchange quality pieces like Axel Witsel, Youri Tielemans, Thorgan Hazard, Yannick Carrasco, and others, while Thibaut Courtois has been a steel trap in the back. If you’re going to bet on a team outside of the top five, Belgium is your best bet.
