The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning will face off in the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. Game 1 is scheduled for Monday, June 28 with the puck dropping just after 8 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
The Canadiens claimed their spot in what will be their 35th appearance in the championship round with a string of upsets. They had the 18th best record, but thanks to the realignment due to COVID-19, they earned one of the 16 playoff berths. They won their first round series over Toronto after coming back from a 3-1 deficit. They then steamrolled Winnipeg in the second round, sweeping them with ease. They clinched a berth in the Final when they beat Vegas in six games.
The defending champion Lightning claimed their spot in what will be their fourth appearance in the Final with a couple relatively easy series wins in the first two rounds and then a rough road in the Stanley Cup semifinals. They beat their in-state rival Florida in six games and then rolled Carolina in five games. The Islanders took them to seven games, but Tampa Bay pulled it out in the end.
