Unai Simón allows an own goal in first half of Round of 16 match with Croatia

FINAL UPDATE: Spain scored a pair of goals in overtime, getting through a shaky Croatia defense to win 5-3 and advance to the quarterfinals.

Spain entered Monday’s Euro 2020 Round of 16 match against Croatia a sizable favorite, but they have shot themselves in the foot in the early going. A Spanish player kicked the ball from midfield back to goalkeeper Unai Simón, and somehow the Spanish keeper was not ready. I don’t know if the ball took a bad bounce or what, but it skipped past him and into the net for an own goal to give Croatia a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
