Odds to win women’s basketball gold medal at Tokyo 2021 Olympics

Will the USA be able to defend their title in Tokyo? It might depend on who chooses to play.

The 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo will have Team USA looking for their seventh-consecutive women’s basketball gold medal, and the stars and stripes are a massive favorite to win their ninth gold medal in 10 Olympiads.

South Carolina’s Dawn Staley takes over as head coach from UConn’s Geno Auriemma. Staley won three gold medals herself as a player, and will have a preposterously deep roster to choose from that includes WNBA teammates Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Diana Taurasi, Elena Delle Donne, A’ja Wilson, Arike Ogunbowale, Napheesa Collier, Diamond DeShields, Allisha Gray, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Mitchell, Tiffany Mitchell... you get the idea. You almost can’t go wrong here.

But if there was a team to challenge, Australia would seem to have the roster. Liz Cambage has been a dominant force for the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA this season, and she’ll be joined by Leilani Mitchell of the Washington Mystics. Most of the rest of the roster plays in Australia’s WNBL, which is the best league in the world outside of the WNBA. That includes rising star Lauren Nicholson, who played college basketball at Saint Mary’s in the West Coast Conference.

Here are the complete odds from DraftKings Sportsbook for who will win the women’s basketball gold medal at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
