The Sox took the first two games of this series, but the Marlins just snapped a losing streak yesterday, so that could turn things around for them. If you’re putting money down, we’ll examine who we think you should take on the moneyline and a player prop we think has a good shot of hitting.
Moneyline pick: Red Sox -143
The Sox come into this one having won seven of their last 10, while the Marlins have won just two in that same span. The Boston offense is averaging nearly five runs per game over their last five games and Miami is scoring roughly a whole run less per game on average in the same span.
In the first two games of this series, the Marlins were outscored 8-3, but today could be a bit different. Pablo Lopez is slated to take the hill for Miami and he’s given up just six runs over his last 23 innings pitched. Still, that’s only resulted in one W for him as the Marlins have struggled in getting runs on the scoreboard.
Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta has had a much worse stat line over the last four starts, with double the runs given up as Lopez in one fewer inning. Still, he’ll have one of the best offenses in the league to prop him up if he has a bad day.
Player Prop: Nick Pivetta over 5.5 strikeouts (-182)
Pivetta has gotten more than 5.5 strikeouts in all of his last four outings and in six of his last seven. He’ll also be taking on one of the biggest strikeout teams in baseball in Miami. This one is extremely enticing.
