Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani headlines the 2021 Home Run Derby, but Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo and New York Mets star Pete Alonso are expected to provide a serious challenge to the MLB home run leader.

The public expects Monday’s Derby to be a showcase event for Ohtani. He’s getting an overwhelming percentage of the handle in each category, especially in the category for most home runs. The number of wagers on Ohtani is slightly less overwhelming, but the Angels star still carries most of those.

Bettors don’t think he’ll have much trouble, but there is enough action on Gallo and Alonso to win the Derby with 23 percent and 14 percent respectively. Gallo is also getting 30 percent of wagers to hit the most home runs as a clear second-favorite. We’ll see if either contender can upset Ohtani and make bettors who went against the grain some money.
