Gold Cup 2021 Group C standings

Here’s how Group C is shaping up at the 2021 Gold Cup.

2021 Gold Cup Group C action begins Monday as Jamaica and Suriname meet in the first match, followed by Costa Rica and Guadeloupe. Costa Rica and Jamaica are expected to contend for the top spot in the group, but are considered longshots to win the Cup according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Here’s how the group is playing out.

Costa Rica, 3-0-0, 9 points
Jamaica, 2-0-1, 6 points
Suriname, 1-0-2, 3 points
Guadeloupe, 0-0-3, 0 points

Group C Schedule

Jamaica 2, Suriname 0

  • Suriname had the slight edge in possession, but Jamaica was the more efficient in securing the win. Suriname had 10 total shots but only three were on goal, while Jamaica put six of its seven shots on goal. Shamar Nicholson scored in the 6th minute and Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored in the 26th minute.

Costa Rica 3, Guadeloupe 1

  • Costa Rica dominated early and cruised to victory in this one. They controlled possession 62%-38% and scored twice early to take firm control. Joel Campbell scored in the 6th minute and Ariel Lassiter scored in the 21st minute. Celso Borges added insurance in the 70th minute.

Jamaica 2, Guadeloupe 1

  • It was all Jamaica for good and bad in this victory. Amari’i Bell scored an own goal in the fourth minute to give Guadeloupe a stunning 1-0 lead. Jamaica evened the score fairly quickly when Cory Burke equalized in the 14th minute. Neither team could get the advantage for much of the match until Junior Flemmings finally netted one in the 87th minute. Jamaica clinched a knockout stage berth with the win.

Costa Rica 2, Suriname 1

  • This match was even for the first half until Gleofilo Vlijter gave Suriname a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. Costa Rica responded in rapid succession with goals in the 58th and 59th minute to win and clinch a knockout stage berth. Costa Rica will be without Calvo and Kendall Waston in their group finale due to a red card and a yellow card, respectively.
