The Chicago White Sox were labeled as a darkhorse to win the World Series and have been the best team in the AL Central this season. Chicago has two outstanding All-Star pitchers in Lance Lynn and Carlos Rodon. Not to mention, they also have Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cease, and Dallas Keuchel round out the starting rotation. The 52-win White Sox have a noticeable lead over the Cleveland Indians, who are the only other team in Central that could possibly compete for the division title.
1. Chicago White Sox (52-35) —
2. Cleveland Indians (44-42) 7.5 GB
3. Detroit Tigers (40-49) 13 GB
4. Minnesota Twins (37-50) 15 GB
5. Kansas City Royals (36-52) 16.5 GB
The Minnesota Twins were suppose to be competition for the White Sox as they were only +150 underdogs and had the second-best odds to win the division. But the Twins haven’t received consistent starting pitching outside of Jose Berrios. It does not matter what level of baseball you play, if you do not have at least three competent starting pitchers it will be hard to win. The White Sox have 3 or maybe 4 quality starting pitchers that can go out and dominate on any particular day. The Sox still have a solid offense, despite losing multiple players to long-term injuries.
AL Central Division winner odds
White Sox -1115
Indians +650
Tigers +10000
Royals +10000
Twins +10000
This is the White Sox’s division to lose, which they won’t, pending a monumental collapse. Chicago has two Cy Young candidates in Lynn and Rodon, along with the former AL MVP in first baseman Jose Abreu. The White Sox should be playing well into the postseason and we could see them in the World Series.
Betting value: White Sox -1115
