Gold Cup 2021 Group D standings

Here’s how Group D is shaping up at the 2021 Gold Cup.

Group D of the 2021 Gold Cup kicks off Tuesday with surprise competitor Qatar facing Panama and Honduras meeting Grenada. Honduras and Panama are expected to be the best teams in the group, but are +3300 and +4000 respectively to win the Cup according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Here’s how the group is playing out.

Group D Schedule

Qatar 3, Panama 3

  • Penalty kicks capped a wild second half that saw all six goals scored. Qatar opened with a goal in the 48th minute and the two sides exchanged a pair of goals to tie it at 2. Qatar secured a penalty in the 63rd minute and Hasan Al Haydos drilled it in for the 3-2 lead. However a 79th minute penalty gave Éric Davis a shot to tie it up, and he did.

Honduras 4, Grenada 0

  • Honduras rolled in the second of their opener. After taking a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, Honduras added a goal in the 52nd minute and two more in the final five minutes of regulation.

Qatar 4, Grenada 0

  • Qatar dominated this one, scoring three goals in the first half and controlling possession for 64% of the match. They managed four goals from four different players, including Abdelaziz Hatim (11’), Akram Afif (22’), Mohammed Muntari (36’), and Almoez Ali (46’). Qatar will face Honduras on Tuesday with a chance to win the group.

Honduras 3, Panama 2

  • Panama jumped on top early, scoring goals in the 32nd minute and stoppage time at the end of the first half to take a 2-1 lead. However, Honduras scored a quick flurry in the second half, with Alexander López and Romell Quioto scoring in the 61st and 65th minutes, respectively. Honduras can clinch the group on Tuesday with a win or tie against Qatar.
