New York has already had a COVID outbreak early in the 2021 season.

MLB Cover the Bases: betting the Boston and New York (AL) rivalry

UPDATE: The Thursday evening game has been postponed due to the Yankees COVID-19 issues, per Ken Rosenthal. The division rivals were opening a four-game series coming out of the All-Stark break. It is unclear what this means for the rest of the series.

The New York Yankees might be facing another COVID outbreak.

The team canceled pregame batting practice ahead of a matchup with the Boston Red Sox to work through COVID testing and health and safety protocols, according to NJ.com’s Brendan Kuty. The Yankees are among the teams at MLB’s 85 percent vaccination threshold required to relax restrictions.

The Yankees were considered one of the preseason favorites to make the World Series, but the season has taken a lot of twists and turns. New York is currently 46-43, putting the team eight games behind the Red Sox for the AL East lead. The Yankees are in a tie for fourth place with the Blue Jays at the moment. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, they are +800 to win the AL and +1800 to win the World Series.

There’s no indication the team is going through another widespread outbreak, although the Yankees did put pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga on the COVID injured list recently.
