Mets place Francisco Lindor on 10-day injured list

The New York Mets’ offense will be without their starting shortstop for at least the next couple of weeks.

The New York Mets announced on Saturday that shortstop Francisco Lindor was placed on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain. Lindor suffered the injury on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. To replace Lindor on the 26-man roster, the Mets recalled infielder Travis Blakenhorn from Triple-A.

For the Mets, this is not great news as they only lead the Philadelphia Phillies by three games for first place in the NL East. Oblique injuries are very tricky and something that players cannot be rushed back from. In his first season with the Mets, Lindor got off to a slow start, hitting .189 and .204 in April and May.

However, the former Cleveland Indians shortstop began to figure out things at the plate over the last couple of months. This month, the 27-year-old is slugging .333/.489/.500 with 2 HRs and 10 RBI in 36 at-bats. It should be interesting to see how Lindor progresses as he will likely not return before the trade deadline. If the Mets struggle to get production it could spark them to make a trade until Lindor returns.
