Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama has withdrawn from the 2021 Rocket Mortgage after testing positive for Covid-19 in the second round. Matsuyama had shot a 2-under in the first round on Thursday afternoon, which would have had him currently tied for 67th place in the tournament, which is taking place at Detroit Golf Club over the holiday weekend.

Here’s a statement from Matsuyama via the PGA Tours official website:

“It’s disappointing to receive this news and have to withdraw from the Rocket Mortgage Classic,” said Matsuyama. “I will take all the necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of all others. I appreciate and thank everyone for their concern in advance. I look forward to a full recovery and returning to competition as soon as possible.”

Matsuyama had been in a trio with Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler on Thursday. Those two will play as a duo on Friday in the second round. Matsuyama will be force to isolate as per the guidelines of the CDC. Hideki entered the Rocket Mortgage at 19/1 to win the tournament and had 2 percent of the bets on DraftKings Sportsbook.
