The host country is still alive in Copa America 2021.

Lucas Paqueta got the second half started with a bang as Brazil defeated Chile 1-0 to advance to the Copa America semifinal. Brazil went down to 10 men for most of the match after Gabriel Jesus got a red card for a reckless high kick.

Paqueta’s goal came on a series of passes typical of Brazil’s “jogo bonito” style. The midfielder was able to find a gap in Chile’s defense after receiving a quick pass and thumped the ball in the back of the net.

Brazil was a massive favorite to defeat Chile, receiving 88 percent of all wagers on the match. The hosts are now one step away from making the final for the second consecutive competition. They will face Peru in the semifinal in what is a rematch of the 2019 Copa America final.

Chile will have to go back to the drawing board after the loss. The team has only grabbed one win in its last seven matches and will need to find results when World Cup qualification play resumes.

Brazil’s semifinal match with Peru will take place Monday, July 5 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
