Mexico and Honduras face off on Saturday, July 24 at 10 p.m. ET in the 2021 Gold Cup quarterfinals. The match will air on FS1 and take place in Glendale, Arizona. Mexico is a -250 regular time favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, while Honduras is a +320 underdog.
Mexico, the reigning Gold Cup champions, stumbled a bit as it opened its campaign with a scoreless draw against Trinidad & Tobago. However, El Tri followed that up with a 3-0 win over Guatemala and a 1-0 victory over El Salvador, finishing at the top of Group A as expected. Honduras finished second in Group D after a 4-0 win over Grenada and a 3-2 win over Panama. It lost its game to Qatar with a 2-0 score line, but six points was all Honduras needed to finish second in the group and advance to the quarterfinals.
Mexico vs. Honduras
Total goals: 2.5 (Over +100, Under -120)
Regular time ML pick: Mexico (-250)
Team to advance pick: Mexico
Best bet: Mexico in regular time (-250)
The Mexicans are heavily favored to win this game, and with good reason. They entered the tournament as favorites to win, and it will most likely take a team a lot stronger than Honduras to stop that from happening. The last time these sides met it ended in a scoreless draw back in June’s friendly, but Mexico controlled 71 percent of possession and outplayed the Hondurans on both ends of the field. Monterrey star Rogelio Funes Mori leads the team as he scored half of Mexico’s goals through the group stage, bagging a brace in a 3-0 win over Guatemala on match day two. The safe bet here is for Mexico to get the win in 90 and move on to face the winner of Costa Rica and Canada.
