The USMNT — one of only two teams who won all three group stage games — finished at the top of Group B. It kicked off the Gold Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Haiti, followed by a 6-1 drubbing of Martinique before another close 1-0 win over Canada thanks to a first-minute goal from 24-year-old Shaquell Moore. Jamaica won two of its group stage games — 2-0 over Suriname and 2-1 over Guadeloupe — but lost the final game 1-0 to Costa Rica. The six points from those two wins was enough for Jamaica to finish in second place, three points clear of third-place Suriname.

While the USMNT struggled in the group stage, it still eked out three wins and finished at the top of the group as expected. The Americans have to navigate the rest of the tournament without stalwart center back Walker Zimmerman after he exited the game against Canada with a hamstring strain. These two sides have met plenty of times, but USA has controlled the series as the Reggae Boyz have only won three times in their history — most notably a 2-1 upset in the 2015 Gold Cup semifinals. USA has won the last two outings, 3-1 and 4-1, with the latter result back in March as the teams geared up for Gold Cup play. I think USMNT comes out on top in regular time and moves on to the semifinals.
