The Gold Cup is drawing nearer to the final as Mexico and Canada are set to face off in one of the semifinal matchups. The game takes place on Thursday, July 29 at 10:00p.m. ET at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Mexico have been the favorite to win the tournament since day one, and with good reason. El Tri has won the title 11 times in the tournament’s history and os the current reigning champion, taking home the trophy in 2019 as well. The Mexicans flew past Honduras in their quarterfinal matchup, beating them 3-0 with all goals coming in the first half. Canada downed Costa Rica in its quarterfinal game 2-0 thanks to goals from Junior Hoilett and Stephen Eustaquio.
Opening odds
Mexico vs. Canada
Mexico: -170
Tie: +295
Canada: +525
Best Bet: Mexico in regular time
While Canada hasn’t been terrible in this tournament, Mexico has been the clear favorite from the beginning and is easily favored to win this game. Rogelio Funes Mori leads the team with three goals through just four games played and he’ll be expected to be a big part going forward against Canada’s defense. It may be a close affair, but Mexico should come out on top in 90 minutes.
