The Sacramento Kings selected Baylor G Davion Mitchell with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

For the 15th straight season, the Kings missed out on the playoffs as they still search for answers. They had an identical record to their 2019-20 season, finishing in 12th place with a 31-41 overall record, only two games behind the 10th-place Spurs and the final play-in tournament berth. De’Aaron Fox was a bright spot for Sacramento this season, averaging over 25.2 points, 7.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game throughout the year, easily taking the honors as the team’s leading scorer and driving force behind the offense. They’ll have some tough decisions ahead of them as the Western Conference gets increasingly more difficult, but they have some players they can use as bargaining chips in future deals such as Buddy Hield, Harrison Barnes, and Marvin Bagley.

No. 9, first round: Davion Mitchell, G, Baylor
No. 39, second round: Neemias Queta, C, Utah State

Fantasy basketball outlook

Davion Mitchell — Through three seasons at Baylor, last season was by far Mitchell’s best as he averaged 14 points and 5.5 assists per game. He’s got solid defensive skills and a strong work ethic, and should be a great addition to the Kings backcourt. Sacramento is in need of big guys as well so it might be a little surprising to see them go for another guard, but Mitchell should prove to be a great pick in the long term as a well-rounded point guard in their arsenal.
