The Boston Celtics selected France G Juhann Begarin with the No. 45 pick in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

The Celtics are in a period of flux within this current regime. Danny Ainge is out and Brad Stevens is in charge of making basketball decisions. Ime Udoka was hired to replace Stevens as head coach. Kemba Walker was traded to the OKC Thunder after that signing didn’t pan out. So Boston is left with a solid core of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown but still plenty of question marks as to how the team can get over the hump.

The Celtics don’t have much in terms of raw assets but do have some cap space to play around with this offseason. Many have linked Boston to potential trade targets such as Washington Wizards SG Bradley Beal. That seems like a stretch given the packages other franchises can throw Washington’s way. Ultimately, the Celtics will need young players like Robert Williams, Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith to step up and develop. Or the team will look to add a third star to Tatum and Brown.

Fantasy basketball outlook

Juhann Begarin — The Celtics did trade Kemba Walker but don’t expect Begarin to get a lot of minutes or opportunities early. Boston will lean heavily on Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum for much of the season, meaning Begarin is not going to be a big commodity in fantasy basketball or DFS lineups.
