The Gold Cup 2021 semifinal round begins Thursday, July 29 with Qatar and USA facing off for a spot in the final. The match begins at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on FS1.

The USMNT has split the past ten Gold Cups with Mexico, with each squad winning five. The US men’s team last won the Gold Cup in 2017, beating Jamaica 2-1 in the final. This year, the US won all three of its group matches and finished with the highest goal differential (+7) in group play. The squad then beat Jamaica 1-0 in the quarterfinals.
This is Qatar’s first appearance in the Gold Cup. Qatar is a part of the Asian Football Confederation, and the AFC established a partnership with CONCACAF in 2018 that will include World Cup host Qatar in this Gold Cup and the 2023 tournament. They won two group matches and had draw against Panama. They beat El Salvador 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
