Denmark’s improbable run at Euro 2020 continues.
After needing a massive victory in the last group stage game to qualify for the knockout round, Denmark is headed to the semifinal with a 2-1 victory over Czech Republic. 63 percent of the public backed the Danes to advance, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
Thomas Delaney gave Denmark the early advantage with a header off a corner kick in the fifth minute. The Danes doubled their advantage just before halftime when Kasper Dolberg broke free from the Czech defense to slot a shot into the back of the net.
Czech Republic made a big push after halftime and immediately got rewarded. Patrik Schick, who has been great in front of goal, converted on a cross from Vladimir Coufal to cut Denmark’s advantage in half. Czech Republic continued to find good shots, but Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was phenomenal. He recorded four saves in the match.
Neutral observers can appreciate Denmark’s run after the incident with Christian Eriksen in the group stage opener against Finland. Eriksen is recovering well and teams continue to pay tribute to him ahead of matches against Denmark.
The Danes will meet the winner of Ukraine-England in the semifinal, which will take place Wednesday, July 7 at 3 p.m. ET.
