The 2021 NHL season has come to a close and the Tampa Bay Lightning are your Stanley Cup champions for a second straight season. The Lightning closed out the Montreal Canadiens in five games on the back of a shutout by goalkeeper and Conn Smythe winner Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The NHL heads into what will be a busy offseason that offers up two big questions in particular. First, can the Lightning match become the first team since the New York Islanders to win at least three straight Stanley Cups? DraftKings Sportsbook opened their 2022 NHL Championship odds and have installed the Lightning at +700 to threepeat. They sit right behind the +500 Colorado Avalanche and the +600 Vegas Golden Knights.
There are plenty of big questions this offseason, but arguably the biggest is what can we expect from the Seattle Kraken expansion franchise? Will they follow the lead of the Golden Knights and compete for playoff glory right out of the gate? Or will they join the more traditional mold of expansion teams struggling out of the gate.
DraftKings has installed Seattle at +5000 to win the 2022 Stanley Cup, which is tied with the Nashville Predators. The Kraken haven’t even held their expansion draft yet, so we don’t even know what kind of roster they’ll put out there. But they’ll get a decent amount of futures wagers from curious bettors, so it’s worth off-setting that a little in the odds.
