We split our only two best bets for Wednesday, bringing our record to 9-13, which is not bad since we sometimes have four bets on a given day. Looking back at yesterday’s games, the Rangers (-152) lost 5-3 to the Tigers, who have a record of 11-5 in their last 16 games. We picked up a win in a fantastic pitchers’ duel between Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes and Mets ace Jacob deGrom. Burnes went over his strikeout prop, which was 7.5 at +125 odds and racked up 8 strikeouts in 5.2 IP. It’s nothing like throwing a couple dollars down on a plus-money strikeout prop and seeing it pay off.
Here we’re going to be tracking all the best MLB picks base on the odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s baseball action.
MLB picks for Thursday, July 8th - Record YTD (9-13)
Dodgers (-155) vs. Marlins
The Dodgers need a win in the worst way after losing 9-6 on Wednesday night to the Marlins. Miami has now won the first three games out of this four-game set and will be looking for the vaunted four-game sweep today at 12:10 p.m. ET. Los Angeles has been competitive in all three games, despite being outscored 16-11. The Dodgers will start Julio Urias, who’s been solid on the road and can help his team snap their losing streak.
Urias is 10-3 with an ERA of 3.81 through 17 starts, but has allowed 14 HRs this season. The 24-year-old is vying for his second-straight win after recording 9 strikeouts in 6.0 IP against the Washington Nationals. This season, Urias is 7-2 with a 3.40 ERA in 9 road starts and has a .200 opponents batting average. The Dodgers are 4-1 in Urias’ last five road starts and are averaging 7.6 runs. If Urias can give them another quality start and the bats come alive, then they should be fine. But they are facing Sandy Alcantara, who is 5-7 with an ERA of 2.96 this season. The 25-year-old has not been a pitcher at home this season (1-3, 2.61), but has failed to get any run support — 1.2 runs in his last five home outings.
Tarik Skubal over 5.5 strikeouts (-127)
It was tough to find a favorable strikeout prop for Thursday night’s slate in MLB. However, we might’ve found one with Tarik Skubal. The Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher has had a mixed bag of results this season, but had a solid month of June. Skubal has gone over 5.5 strikeouts in 9 out of 17 games this season, which includes 5 out of his last 6 outings that came against the White Sox (3 times). In his six road starts for Detroit, Skubal is averaging 6 strikeouts per game. He’ll be going up against a Twins team that he faced at home this year, where Skubal had 8 strikeouts in 5.0 IP.
