In the co-main event at welterweight for UFC 264, Gilbert Burns will take on Stephen Thompson Saturday night live from T-Mobile Arena and available on ESPN+ PPV.

The 34-year-old Burns enters the octagon with a professional fighting record of 19-4, and is ranked second in the welterweight rankings. “Durinho” last fought at UFC 258 in February, where he lost to Kamara Usman in the main event by TKO in Round 3.

Before that defeat, the Brazilian mixed martial artist won six straight bouts dating back to UFC 231 in December 2018. The 34-year-old fighter averages 3.15 strikes per minute, with an accuracy of 46%. However, Burns absorbs 2.74 strikes per minute, while he defends against them at 56%. Durinho has eight submission wins under his belt, which makes sense with his 0.71 submission average with an accuracy of 37%. He also possesses a takedown average of 2.21 per 15 minutes.

As for Thompson, he comes into Saturday’s co-main event with a professional fighting record of 16-4-1 and is ranked fourth in the welterweight division. The 38-year-old mixed martial artist last competed at UFC Fight Night 183 in December, where he defeated Geoff Neal by unanimous decision. “Wonderboy” Thompson will be fighting for the first time in 2021 and has won two consecutive bouts.

The veteran fighter lands more significant strikes than Burns at 3.93 per minute with 44% accuracy. But Thompson only absorbs 2.73 strikes per minute, while he defends against them at 59%. “Wonderboy” is not a grappler inside the ring unlike his opponent in Gilbert Burns. That may or may not benefit the 38-year-old, who has 8 wins via decision and 7 wins by TKO/KO.
