Peru finished second in its group to Brazil, but was able to upset Paraguay in the quarterfinal round to get a showdown with the defending champions in the semis. Peru was without star forward Andre Carrillo in that match, but fought valiantly in a 1-0 loss. The team will look to leave Copa América with a third-place finish.
It was a tale of two penalty shootouts for Colombia in the knockout round. The team blanked a strong Uruguay attack to force penalties after finishing 0-0 through extra time. Colombia won that tiebreaker 4-2 to face Argentina in the semifinal. Luis Diaz got an equalizer in the second half to eventually send that game to penalties as well. This time, Colombia came up short in the shootout, losing 3-2.
