After some debate about whether he would return to football at all, Rob Gronkowski eventually decided to reunite with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. It proved to be a good addition for the Bucs, who got seven touchdowns and more than 600 receiving yards from the savvy veteran. While he still has a role to play in this team’s title defense, it’s going to be harder for him to match his production from last year.
495.5 receiving yards: Over (-115) or Under (-115)
Our pick: Under
Gronk’s 623 yards were a solid, surprising contribution to the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl run last year. While he did not look like the more athletic younger version of himself, he and Tom Brady quickly reestablished some of their old chemistry. Working against him this season is the return of O.J. Howard as well as the continued presence of Cameron Brate. There are only so many targets to go around, so this seems like a stretch. At this stage, being a contributing role player is a good place for the 32-year-old.
5 receiving TDs: Over (+100) or Under (-130)
Our pick: Under
The deciding factor here, for me, is a healthy O.J. Howard, who also happens to be very adept at catching touchdowns. This team is just too loaded to give a role playing tight end more than five touchdowns.
