The Minnesota Vikings used running back Dalvin Cook a ton in the 2020-21 season, and he finished the year with the second most carries in the NFL behind only Derrick Henry. Cook is one of the few workhorse backs in the league and was rewarded with a new contract last season. He figures to be among the top running backs heading into the season, and he has big expectations for the Vikings, who are the top challengers to the Green Bay Packers.
1695.5 rushing and receiving yards: Over (-110) or Under (-120)
Our pick: Under
Cook played in 14 games last season and reached 1,918 total yards and hit 1,654 total yards in 14 games in 2019, but we’re still going with the under. The Vikings should throw the ball more than they did last season with the emergence of Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson as one of the most underrated wide receiver duos in the league. Cook is in the early stages of a big contract, so it would be smart for the Vikings to keep him fresh with limited touches.
13.5 rushing touchdowns: Over (+100) or Under (-130)
Our pick: Over
The Vikings should have an improved offense and if they put the ball in the air more, scoring should go up. Cook will benefit from this when the Vikings get in close because he’s done well racking up touchdowns the past two years with 29 total rushing scores over 28 games. Getting plus value with the over makes for a fantastic bet especially with an additional regular season game.
Dalvin Cook to have 2000+ rushing yards in the regular 2021 NFL season? (+2500)
Our pick: No
This would lead to quite the payout if it happens, but taking a longshot like this is highly unlikely to come to fruition. Cook had a fantastic season in 2020 with 1,557 yards on the ground and five yards per carry. He received a ton of rushing attempts with 312 last season, and it is difficult for running backs to replicate that type of success the next year with a similar number of carries.
