Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams has a hip flexor injury, per Gilbert Manzano of the OC Register. Coach Brandon Staley didn’t go into detail on the injury, but it is worth keeping an eye on for fantasy as Williams is set to have a big workload as the No. 2 receiver on the team. Rookie Josh Palmer will likely get more run with the first team while Williams recovers, as he has looked good in training camp according to multiple reports.

Williams will need to have a bounce back season after inefficient numbers in 2020, as he caught just 48 of 85 targets and garnering just 8.9 yards per target for the deep threat. Another season with the Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert throwing it to him can’t hurt and we should expect a better overall season if he can get past this injury without much trouble and get on the field.

We likely wouldn’t have seen him in preseason games anyway, as Staley is a Sean McVay disciple and has followed his lead by not playing his starters in preseason.
