Why Chris Carson will go OVER or UNDER rushing props for 2021 NFL season

Despite missing significant time in 2020, Seahawks running back Chris Carson returns healthy and well-positioned for a productive season.

Can Chris Carson put up over 950 Rush Yards in 2021?

The Seattle Seahawks might have changed their offensive coordinator this offseason, but the identity of their running game remains the same: Chris Carson. Despite missing significant time in 2020, Carson returns healthy and well-positioned for a productive season.

Here, we take a look at the prop bets on the table for Carson on DraftKings Sportsbook ahead of the 2021 NFL season and make our picks.

Chris Carson player props for 2021 NFL season

1000.5 rushing yards: Over (+100) or Under (-130)

Our pick: Over

Injuries have proven to be Carson’s main adversary since entering the NFL, and that comes into play with his rushing total. The running back has missed multiple games in all but one of his four NFL seasons and played hurt in several others. Still, the Seahawks believe Carson has made strides with his conditioning and could have his finest season yet, and perhaps he will. The team remains committed to the ground game and made meaningful improvements to the offensive line, both of which weigh in Carson’s favor. If he plays closer to his 2019 form, he should hit the over so long as he avoids a major injury.

7.5 rushing yards: Over (-115) or Under (-115)

Our pick: Under

The Seahawks don’t lean on Carson as heavily inside the 10-yard line as other lead running backs of his caliber, an approach that has limited his scoring upside in Seattle. The new offense installed by former Los Angeles Rams assistant Shane Waldron could lead head coach Pete Carroll to reevaluate that stance, but the team also might instead create more opportunities for former first-round pick Rashaad Penny. Too many factors weigh against Carson to expect him to run in eight or more touchdowns.
