49ers vs. Lions odds: Everything to know as you consider betting on the Week 1 matchup

TK TK TK

The San Francisco 49ers head east to face the Detroit Lions to open the 2021 NFL season this Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will air on FOX. The 49ers opened as a touchdown favorite in May at DraftKings Sportsbook, and head into Week 1 sitting at -7.5. The total is currently 45.5. The 49ers are -320 favorites while the Lions are +250 underdogs.

There are two key storylines heading into Week 1: the QB position and team health. A year ago, the 2020 season was lost due to a ridiculous number of injuries. One of those injuries was Jimmy Garoppolo’s high ankle sprain that cost him much of the season. He’s dealt with numerous injuries in his career, and concerns about his availability and overall upside resulted in the 49ers moving up and drafting Trey Lance.

The team heads into Week 1 with Jimmy Garoppolo installed as the clear starting quarterback for now. How long he remains the starter is anybody’s guess while Trey Lance recovers from a small finger fracture and works his way into a position to take Garoppolo’s job.

The 49ers open the season as favorites to win the NFC West at DraftKings Sportsbook, installed at +180, which is just ahead of the +190 Los Angeles Rams. Their Super Bowl odds are listed at +1400, which is tied for fifth best across the league.
