The best team in the Metropolitan Division takes on a wild card from the Atlantic Division as the Washington Capitals face the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Boston is still led by Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, and have won four of their last five entering the tournament. They’re a defensive-minded team, finishing with a +35 goal differential (253 GF, 218 GA), but have a net-minder in Linus Ullmark that has yet to play in the postseason in his seven-year career after moving over from Buffalo before this season.

The Hurricanes claimed the Metropolitan Division championship this season as they look ahead to postseason play. Carolina played well over the final couple weeks of the regular season, but goaltender Frederik Anderson will likely miss some time early on in the playoffs with a left leg injury. Sebastian Aho is the leading point scorer for the Hurricanes heading into the postseason.
