The PGA TOUR teed off the second round of the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday morning with Harry Hall sitting on top of the leaderboard at -8. Now Harris English holds the lead at -9 following a -4 66 on Friday.
The first trios teed off on Friday at 8:20 a.m. ET, with the afternoon groups beginning 1 p.m. ET. It should be about 4 p.m. ET before we have a solid idea of what the final cut line should be, but many participants will know they’re heading home after holing out on 18.
How is the cut line determined?
The cut line at 36 holes is the top 65 players plus those tied at the end of that group.
What is the projected cut line for the Charles Schwab Challenge as of now?
Update 7:30 p.m. The cut will be +1, with about 73 players making it to the weekend.
Update 6:15 p.m. Harry Hall has taken over the lead at -11 thru 13 holes, but 73 players are at +1 or better, with 13 on the number. Cameron Champ (thru 15) and Maverick McNealy (16) are both coming home at +1, and will need par or better to make it to tomorrow.
Update 5:00 p.m. It’s still exactly 70 players and exactly 10 on the number as the last groups have made the turn. Sungjae Im joins the +2 players looking to make the weekend, so there is for sure some star power at +2 the organizers might like to have hanging around until Sunday.
Update 4:30 p.m. We’re down to 70 players at +1 or better, and 10 exactly on the number. With some of the field still having 11 holes to play, there’s a chance the +2 golfers could still see Saturday.
That would bring Tony Finau, Cam Davis, and Dylan Frittelli amongst others along for the ride. There are currently 16 players at +2, and six of them are waiting from the clubhouse or local watering hole.
Update 3:50 p.m. We’re now at +1, as 73 players are on that number or better, with 12 of them exactly at +1. Of those 12, eight are currently on the course that’s getting more difficult, so getting back to even seems less than likely.
If you’re at +1 such as Beau Hossler or Paul Haley II, you can probably extend that rental car reservation for the weekend.
Right now the projected cut line is level par, with exactly 65 players at that score or better, and 13 of them on the number directly. Those players on +1 still have some hope to play the weekend as well as Colonial Country Club firms up later in the day.
Who is not projected to make the cut?
Joel Dahmen and Kurt Kitayama are in the house at +1, and will need some help to play the weekend.
Unfortunately everyone’s hero from last week in Michael Block returned to earth, firing a +15 after two rounds to be dead last in the event by six shots.
