The Chicago Cubs are adding a sportsbook to Wrigley Field! The Major League Baseball club announced an exclusive deal that makes DraftKings their “Official Sports Betting and Daily Fantasy Partner.”
The deal includes a plan to pursue a sportsbook at Wrigley Field that will have online access in the neighboring Wrigleyville area. Illinois legalized sports betting on March 9, but additional approval will be required with the City of Chicago.
If approved, this would mark the first stadium appearance of a DraftKings sportsbook. Betting on sports has become a fixture of stadiums across Europe, but is still a new feature in the United States. Capital One Arena in Washington, DC — home of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitols — launched a sportsbook in early August, and additional sportsbooks are planned at other stadiums in the District of Columbia.
DraftKings recently launched the DraftKings at Casino Queen Sportsbook in East St. Louis. Additionally, per Governor J.B. Pritzker’s Executive Order 2020-41, online and mobile sportsbook registration is currently available statewide through September 19, 2020.
