Pitching matchups for Tuesday, April 13th MLB games

There were a bunch of postponements due to weather and the like on Monday. Because of that, we’ve got 17 games, including two doubleheaders on the slate for Tuesday in Major League Baseball. The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets and Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles will each play a double-header, day-night set. So we’ve got a few more pitching matchups to consider. Let’s take a look.

Best Matchup: Shane Bieber vs. Lucas Giolito

This is a matchup of two of the best pitchers in the American League. The Cleveland Indians starter is coming off a Cy Young win in 2020. Bieber has at least 12 Ks in each of his two starts this season. Chicago White Sox SP Lucas Giolito has allowed 5 ER but also has 18 Ks in 11.1 IP over his first two starts of 2021. We’ve got big-time strikeout potential in this one, so don’t expect much offense.

Sleeper Matchup: Aaron Nola vs. Marcus Stroman

These two are expected to start in Game 2 between the Phillies and Mets on Tuesday night on ESPN. The first game will feature far inferior pitching. The Mets offense has struggled, so this feels like a very good spot for Nola, who has allowed 3 ER over 10.2 IP in his first two outings. Stroman was solid against the Phils in his lone start of 2021, allowing 1 ER on 3 hits (1 HR) over 6 IP. My first bet for a pitcher’s duel would be the matchup above. My second? This bad boy between Nola and Stroman at Citi Field.
