Pitching matchups for each game on Friday, April 2 slate

We take a look at the pitching matchups for each MLB game on the slate for Friday, April 2nd.

After an exciting Opening Day, which featured a slew of good pitching matchups, we now get prepared for Game 2 out of 162 on Friday. We have both Trevor Bauer and Blake Snell making their respective debuts for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. Along with James Paxton returning back to the Pacific-Northwest in the last game on Friday night.

We are going to look at the best pitching matchup and the sleeper pitching matchup that could turn out to be a pitcher’s duel.

Best matchup: Trevor Bauer vs. Antonio Senzatela

On Friday night, we will get to see Bauer make his Dodgers’ regular season debut against the Colorado Rockies. The defending World Series champs did not necessarily need Bauer as their starting rotation was already stacked. However, it’s hard to turn down the best free-agent pitcher on the market.

Bauer will look to continue his dominance from last season, where he had a career-best ERA of 1.73 and the NL Cy Young. The Rockies will have the 26-year-old Antonio Senzatela on the mound. Last season for the Rox, he had one of the best years pitching, with a 3.44 ERA and record of 5-3. He will have the tall task of trying to quiet down the big bats of Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger.

Sleeper matchup: Cristian Javier vs. Jesus Luzardo

At 9:40 p.m. ET on Friday night, we will have the battle of the young pitchers in Christian Javier for the Houston Astros and Jesus Luzardo for the Oakland Athletics. Both pitchers finished in the top-8 of the AL Rookie of the Year voting.

Javier finished third in voting after recording a record of 5-2 and 3.48 ERA. He also recorded 54 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched. As for Luzardo, he finished eighth in voting but has a ton of potential. Last for the Athletics, the 23-year-old pitcher posted a record of 3-2 and an ERA of 4.12. He also racked up 59 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched, to go along with 9.0 K/9.

Here’s a look at the MLB lineup for Friday’s seven-game MLB slate.
