How to watch, what to watch for on April 27th of the 2021 MLB regular season

We take a look at the games on slate for Tuesday, April 27th in the 2021 MLB season.

MLB’s 15-game Tuesday slate will start in the evening with a 6:10 p.m. ET matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians. Most of the other matchups on tap will begin between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. ET, and Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers will wrap things up with the final contest of the night. There’s a lot to keep track of in this late slate. Here are the best games, fantasy options, and rookies to keep an eye on.

Best Games To Watch

The Boston Red Sox (14-9) and New York Mets (9-8) sit atop their respective leagues and are set to face off for the first time this year on Tuesday. The Red Sox are on a roll at the plate and lead MLB in hits (213) and batting average (.276). The Mets, on the other hand, have the fewest hits in MLB. However, they’ve also given up fewer runs (51) than any other team. Something has to give here.

Then there’s the Reds-Dodgers matchup. Both teams have top-five offenses in terms of run production, so there’s potential for a high-scoring battle. Walker Buehler will take the mound against a Cincinnati side that’s scored more runs than any team in baseball. Can the Reds score enough to make up for their weaker pitching? We’ll find out soon.

Fantasy Spotlight

The Chicago White Sox have an ideal matchup on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers’ Jose Urena. The Tigers have given up the third-most earned runs (102) this season, and Urena hasn’t been very impressive in his starts. He’s 0-3 with a 4.57 ERA. Urena’s ground ball rate (53.2%) is solid, but his LOB% (64.2) is worrisome. Chicago cracks the top five in hits (185), runs (108), and batting average (.261). The White Sox usually rake advantage when they get batters on base.

Rookies to Watch

Dylan Carlson batted .636 and scored two runs in the St. Louis Cardinals’ three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. While he has hitless against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, he can rebound and have another big game. Carlson leads all National League rookies in hits and is second in home runs with three.
