There won’t be a ton of MLB action on Monday, as there will only six games on the slate. There won’t be any early afternoon baseball, as the Cincinnati Reds will kick things off against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:35 p.m. ET. You won’t have to worry about much clutter when it comes to deciding what to watch, but here’s the best game, fantasy matchup, and rookie to keep an eye on.
Best Game To Watch
Two of MLB’s best offensive teams — the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros — are set to face off in Monday’s third game. The two American League West squads rank second and third in team batting average, respectively. The Astros lead the season series 4-2, but LA has the firepower to turn things around against Luis Garcia, who’s 0-3 on the year. Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Jared Walsh, Yordan Alvarez, Yuli Gurriel, Alex Bregman, and Michael Brantley should be fun to watch at the plate.
Fantasy Spotlight
The Boston Red Sox are back in the spotlight on Monday ahead of their matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. One of MLB’s hottest batting orders will get a chance to tee off against Jorge Lopez, who has given up at least one home run in six of his seven starts. He gave up seven earned runs and two homers when he faced Boston in April, and more of the same could be in store for the 28-year-old right-hander. The Red Sox have outscored the O’s 43-27 since getting swept by them at the beginning of the 2021 season.
Rookies to Watch
The Miami Marlins’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been one of MLB’s most exciting rookies and has an extremely favorable matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Luke Weaver on Monday. Weaver has given up 17 earned runs in his last 17 innings and is 1-3 on the year. Chisholm is riding a two-game hitting streak and has stolen three bases in his last two games. He’s likely to get on base and make something happen to kick off his week.
